Snater b Shaw 13 (Essex 147-9 v Somerset)

Wickets galore at Chelmsford, it is hard to keep up especially with all the internet issues at the venue!

12 overs 2-29 from Jake Ball so far who has bowled immaculately, but it is Josh Shaw who gets his second Somerset wicket bowling Shane Snater for 13 off 11 balls.

Just the two opening bowlers Jamie Porter and Sam Cook left between Josh Thomas and someone walking out to open the batting for Somerset in TKC's absence.

200 up for Notts

Notts 205-6 v Glamorgan

Andy Gorvin catches Jack Haynes on the thigh and it runs down to fine leg, allowing Notts to pick up a couple more and move past 200.

Haynes then edges through the slips for another four and that also brings the partnership with Fergus O'Neill past 100.

This is much better with the bat from the hosts since lunch.

100 for Alex Lees

Glos v Durham 257-0

No nervous nineties for Alex Lees!

Only two balls later and again Craig Miles is obliging, offering Lees the chance to steer one down to a vacant third for the four runs he needs.

The captain is in the runs after a lean start against Kent and with Durham wanting to correct the wrongs of that shock relegation last year.

A bit slower than Ben McKinney but still only 157 balls required for this effort.

First batting point for Durham

Glos v Durham 253-0

The first ball of the 50th over from Craig Miles... it is so wide that Alex Lees does well to even reach it, but he does more than that, steering it through the offside for yet another boundary.

A first batting point for the visitors and now Lees is only four short of a century.

Post

Surrey 206-2 v Leics

Not sure Ajaz Patel will be massively enjoying his Leicestershire debut so far.

Ollie Pope comes down the track to make the length ball a half-volley and it's brilliant execution as he slams through the covers for four to move onto 83.

Both he and Jamie Smith (88*) will have three figures in their sights now.

150 up for Warwickshire

Sussex v Warwickshire 150-6

Chris Woakes played in the disappointing Bazball era remember, so had plenty of practice hitting sixes in six-hitting contests and instead of digging England out of a hole at 68-6 often being encouraged to tee off further.

So maybe he is the perfect man to play an aggressive role for his county at number eight after the top order failed now?

He hits Henry Crocombe for six off the back foot over the leg side, then takes four next ball too to bring up the Warwickshire 150 in the 47th over.

200 up for Surrey

Surrey 202-2 v Leics

Lovely work, Jamie Smith. He stands tall, gets on top of it from Ben Green and strokes it down the ground for four with a perfectly straight bat.

Surrey have raced along since lunch and they pass 200.

Still eight wickets in hand for the title challengers.

50 for Brett D'Oliveira

Middlesex v Worcestershire 151-7

The one thing you can always expect from Worcestershire is fight and that is epitomised by captain Brett D'Oliveira.

Here he is digging in for his side and raising his bat after swiping Ryan Higgins down the ground for the boundary to bring up a 50 off 92 balls.

He has also found good support from Tom Taylor after they came together at 106-7.

Post

Surrey 197-2 v Leics

A big flash outside off by Ollie Pope from Ben Green and it grazes narrowly past the edge.

Green does then find Pope's outside edge the very next ball... but it flies for four past where second slip would have been stood.

That's the third time we've said that.

Four-four-one from Snater

Essex 143-8 v Somerset

See earlier entry, regarding Shane Snater's want to see ball, hit ball.

Well of course, as we have seen many times before, he does just that.

A straight drive for four, then a bumper pulled for four, before a single to deep square all off Craig Overton.

Good batting by the Essex number nine, though Sam Cook is some drop off to number 10.

50 for Fergus O'Neill

Notts 188-6 v Glamorgan

Fergus O'Neill moves to 50 off just 67 balls with a four through the covers off Andy Gorvin and this partnership is exactly what Nottinghamshire needed after slumping to 103-6.

With Jack Haynes unbeaten on 58 at the other end, the hosts are just starting to put it together now.

200 partnership for Northants

Kent v Northants 214-0

Terrific stuff from Luke Procter and Ricardo Vasconcelos as Northants push past 200 at Canterbury.

Vasconcelos was out in both innings to Jimmy Anderson last week, you can bet he is much preferring this test of his batting skills.

He has 122 and Procter is 78 not out

WICKET

Benkenstein b Shaw 18 (Essex 134-8 v Somerset)

Somerset might have to hurry up and sort an opening bat replacement for TKC soon or else James Rew might have to go up another spot to number two shortly!

Josh Shaw has his first wicket for Somerset.

A big chop on from Luc Benkenstein to another ball that was not hitting the stumps.

49 balls of uncomfortable batting for the young all-rounder who came in for captain Tom Westley for this match.

Who to replace TKC as injury sub at Chelsmford?

Essex 134-7 v Somerset

Somerset bowling coach Steve Kirby is off to the third umpire for a conversation as Tom Kohler-Cadmore is having an x-ray on his damaged digit.

Will Smeed is still fielding in Abergavenny on day three of the match with Cardiff UCCE in which he scored 148 and then 209*.

Thomas Rew was granted three days to captain the seconds, but would probably not have seven consecutive days away from homework/revision for his A-levels next month.

Archie Vaughan is at Chelmsford, so the most likely sub in, but would not be able to bowl.

WICKET

Bohannon b Bashir 73 (Lancs 157-3 v Derbys)

Shoaib Bashir cramps up Josh Bohannon who is looking to cut and the well-set Lancs batter chops it on to his stumps.

Bohannon is annoyed with himself but, if you live by the sword as he tends to, you are going to perish by it as well.

He was dropped on 28 when Martin Andersson failed to grab a very difficult chance at third slip earlier.

But he has rattled along to 73 sharing a partnership of 146 with Marcus Harris and, while he fails to convert a second half century of the campaign, he has done a decent job for his side.

Post

Surrey 179-2 v Leics

It seems like a long old while ago now that Surrey skipper Rory Burns spooned to Ian Holland off Tom Scriven to make it 42-2.

We say that as Ollie Pope swats Ajaz Patel away for his 10th four of the day before picking up a single to move onto 66*.

Tough going for Leicestershire at the moment.

Post

Yorks v Hants 140-4

Ben Mayes was an under-18 England hockey international and there was hint of that in this disdainful pull off his hips against Jhye Richardson.

It races to square leg and the 18-year-old follows it up with a second wider to midwicket. Two very good shots.
