Former coach for the Brindabella Blues Football Club, Robert Jeston, 66, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, November 1.

He was previously charged with three counts of acts of indecency and one count of an act of indecency on a person under 16 years old, allegedly committed during the 2010s.

The alleged abuser, who was arrested at his home in Banks on Friday, October 31, coached various Capital Football junior league teams between 2006 and 2018, police said.

The court heard the alleged victim held fears for her safety, and was afraid Jeston or members of his family would menace or harass her.

Prosecutor Susie Kim said Jeston knew where the alleged victim and her family lived, and was familiar with their home.

Magistrate Alexandra Burt granted Jeston bail with several conditions, including surrendering his passport, noting the alleged victim's concerns.

Investigations by the ACT police sexual assault and child abuse team confirmed Jeston was employed by the Canberra Business Event Centre between 2000 and 2015, and attended the Hughes Baptist Church between 2004 and 2017.

MORE COURT AND CRIME NEWS:

Jeston, who is a former UK citizen, had no criminal history, the court heard. He and the victim are not related.

His three supporters sat stone-faced in the public gallery, one of them furiously writing down notes.

In a statement on social media, Brindabella Blues FC said the club had been made aware of serious allegations involving a former member.

"The individual is no longer associated with the club and hasn't been in any role for a number of years," the post read.

"This matter is being handled by the relevant authorities, and we will continue to cooperate fully with any investigations.

The club, which has a Football Australia 3-Star Club Changer accreditation, said it remained committed to the highest standards of child safeguarding and wellbeing.

Jeston will face court again in November.
