Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah is set to leave Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025–26 season, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Salah has decided to bring his time at Liverpool to a close after nine years with the Premier League side. The forward requested that the club announce his departure at the earliest possible opportunity.

Signed from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has made more than 435 appearances for Liverpool and established himself as one of the club’s greatest players.

During his time at Anfield, he helped the team win two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups, and an FA Community Shield.

Salah has scored 255 goals for Liverpool, placing him third on the club’s all-time scoring list. He has also won four Premier League Golden Boot awards.

The forward had signed a two-year contract extension with the club in April 2025, which runs until the end of the 2026–27 season.

However, tensions reportedly arose earlier in the season when Salah publicly criticized manager Arne Slot after being benched for three consecutive matches in December 2025.

Salah accused Slot of blaming him for the team’s poor performances. He was also left out of a Champions League match against Inter Milan.

Salah later returned to the squad after the Africa Cup of Nations and has been a regular starter since.

Looking ahead, the 33-year-old is expected to join the Saudi Pro League. Saudi club Al-Ittihad is considered a leading destination. Other possible options include Inter Miami, San Diego FC, or a move to European clubs such as Galatasaray.
