Queensland joins NSW in rejecting Cricket Australia’s BBL sale plan

Queensland has joined NSW’s revolt against Cricket Australia plans to sell stakes in Big Bash League clubs.

After taking an extra couple of weeks to decide on whether to agree to the next stage of the sale process, this masthead has confirmed that QC has informed CA that the state is not in favour of continuing the process.

CA is expected to respond to the move later on Thursday morning.

NSW, the home state of CA chair Mike Baird and chief executive Todd Greenberg, has been a vocal opponent of selling stakes, arguing that doing so would risk losing control of the carefully balanced Australian cricket system.

CA had pushed for the sale process in part to remedy mounting concerns about the game’s financial situation with an uncertain outlook for future broadcast revenue in particular.
