ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 20th-ranked UCLA men's tennis team earned its seventh consecutive win, holding off Michigan by a 4-2 score in Big Ten Conference play Friday at UM's Varsity Tennis Center. The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Wolverines twice clawed back to within one.

Freshman Bengt Reinhard provided the clinching victory for UCLA (12-3, 6-0 Big Ten), which also got singles wins from Cassius Chinlund and Emon van Loben Sels. Michigan (7-8, 3-4) chipped away at its deficit with triumphs by Max Dahlin and Nicholas Steiglehner.

Playing together for the first time since Jan. 24, the 32nd-ranked duo of van Loben Sels/Spencer Johnson earned a 6-3 victory against Max Dahlin/Pierce Shaya on the top doubles court. With the Bruins leading on Courts 2 and 3, it was Andy Nguyen/Aadarsh Tripathi delivering the clincher. The pair bested Alex Cairo/Bjorn Swenson 6-4 on the second court.

Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week Chinlund rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 win against Cairo on the fifth singles court. No. 10 Dahlin would then cut the UCLA lead in half with his 6-4, 6-2 decision over No. 66 Johnson on Court 1.

The Bruins established a cushion when No. 33 van Loben Sels completed his 6-2, 6-4 display opposite Mert Oral on Court 3. The Wolverines would not go quietly, however, with Nicholas Steiglehner handing Nguyen a 6-2, 6-4 defeat on Court 4.

With the Court 2 contest already in a third set, Reinhard seized his first career clinching victory. He got the better of Shaya on Court 6, prevailing 6-3, 6-4.

UCLA will complete its road trip Sunday, when it takes on Michigan State at MSU Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT.
