'Cats Battle Blue Jays And Greyhounds On Thursday And Saturday

SAINT JOHNS, N.Y. – The Villanova University men's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of matchups, beginning with a BIG EAST contest against Creighton on Thursday at 2:20 p.m. before facing Loyola Maryland on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Villanova enters the weekend coming off an impressive 7-0 sweep of Coppin State at home. The Wildcats secured the doubles point by winning all three matches.

Cooper Gordon and Ethan Carr earned a 6-2 victory on their court, while Thomas Wakefield and Kush Anand cruised to a 6-0 win. Jack Sherner and Quincy Jones completed the sweep with another dominant 6-0 result.

In singles play, Villanova continued its strong performance, winning in straight sets on every court to seal the convincing 7-0 victory. Will Monahan, Ryan Benoit and Ethan Solop were among the Wildcats who recorded singles wins.

Creighton enters Thursday's matchup with a 9-6 record this season. The Blue Jays most recently secured a narrow 4-3 win over BIG EAST rival Georgetown.

Creighton has been particularly strong at home, holding an 8-0 record in Omaha compared to a 1-6 mark on the road. Their wins include victories over Midland, Air Force and Saint Louis, while losses have come against nationally competitive programs such as Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Notre Dame.

Loyola Maryland has played just two matches this season, dropping road contests to Delaware and Swarthmore. The Greyhounds are scheduled to face Mount St. Mary's and Marist before their matchup with Villanova.

Saturday's match against Loyola Maryland was originally scheduled to be played in Villanova but has been moved to Loyola's home facility.
