In what ways does this tournament stand out from other tournaments in Latin America, and how does it offer a unique Grand Slam experience for juniors?Gabriela Sabatini: The big difference is that this tournament really brings the kids closer to what it means to experience a Grand Slam. It’s not just about competing, but about feeling the atmosphere, the organization, and the level of professionalism that surrounds Roland-Garros. For juniors, it is a very special opportunity because they can start to imagine themselves there, on that stage, and that is incredibly motivating.As an ambassador since last year, what inspired you to take on this role, and what continues to motivate your involvement this year?For me, it is a great honor to support the new generations. When I was asked to become an ambassador, I loved the idea of being able to share my experience and support young talents from our region. Coming back this year motivates me even more because I see the players’ enthusiasm and their dream of going far in tennis.Who were your role models, and how did they influence your tennis career?I was fortunate to grow up watching great champions who inspired me a lot. Guillermo Vilas was a major role model for me; he popularized tennis in Argentina and paved the way for many of us. What left the biggest impression on me was watching his dedication, discipline, and the passion with which he lived sport. From a very young age, that taught me that tennis is not just about talent, but about constant hard work and love for what you do.Why do you believe it’s important for young athletes to interact directly with world-class tennis icons during their development?I think it is a very good idea to listen to real-life experiences, as it can be extremely helpful. Speaking with someone who has already walked that path helps young players better understand what a professional career involves. Being able to give advice or answer different questions is very inspiring and motivating.What qualities and values do you consider essential for young players who aspire to become future Grand Slam contenders?Talent is important, but I think what really makes the difference is discipline, perseverance, commitment, and passion. It is also essential to learn how to handle difficult moments, to keep working with humility, and to enjoy the process. The tennis journey is long and demanding, but it also brings great rewards. Beyond results, it is about feeling that you gave everything you had.Receiving a wild card to compete at Roland-Garros Juniors Tournament in Paris can come with significant pressure. What key advice would you give to a young player stepping onto the clay for the first time at this level?I would tell them to try to enjoy the moment. Feeling pressure is normal, but it is also an incredible opportunity. My advice would be to focus on the game, trust the work they have already done, and live the experience with joy.You are the last South American female player to have won a Grand Slam (at the US Open in 1990, ed.). To what extent can a tournament like Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault help create future South American champions?These types of tournaments are very important because they open doors. Many young players in our region have talent, but they need opportunities to compete at an international level. Events like this allow them to test themselves, gain experience, and start believing that reaching the very top is also possible for them.
