The first final on clay this season is ending the same way the 2025 Grand Slam season concluded: with a Jannik Sinner - Carlos Alcaraz final, this time at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Sunday’s (12 April) final, scheduled for 15:00 local time (CEST), will be the latest chapter in their riveting rivalry, with Spain's Alcaraz holding a 10-6 advantage over the Italian in their head-to-head.

As has often been the case between the two top-ranked tennis stars, this particular final will also see the world No. 1 spot put on the line.

Alcaraz kept his Monte-Carlo Masters title defence dreams alive with a 6-4, 6-4 semi-final victory over hometown favourite Valentin Vacherot.

Sinner, meanwhile, defeated world number three Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-4 in Saturday’s earlier semi-final, reaching the Monte-Carlo Masters final for the first time.

“I think it’s the dream scenario for everyone,” Alcaraz said after his semi-final. “I’m fighting for a second Monte-Carlo title, he’s fighting for his first.”

Alcaraz arrives as an eight-time ATP Masters 1000 champion and is contesting his third Monte-Carlo Masters final, while Sinner, a seven-time winner at that level, is making his first appearance in the title match on the outskirts of Monaco.

Ahead of the potential showdown, Sinner had welcomed the prospect of facing his rival.

“These are the matches I practise for, why I wake up," he said of Alcaraz ahead of his semi-final. "It’s great to have at least one match against him before Roland Garros. It’s a big test for me, but at the same time, I have nothing to lose.”

After his semi-final victory, the Italian added: “Coming here and making the final means a lot to me, so of course I will try to push as much as I can tomorrow. Now the most important thing is to rest. It was a good performance from my side, and tomorrow is going to be a tough one.”

Alcaraz agreed, adding that while it will be tough, it will also “be a really special one."

"The No. 1 is on the line, which will make tomorrow even more special."
