Aymeric Laporte ranks Mohamed Salah above Suarez and Son in attacker comparison

In a game of winner stays on between some of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards past and present, former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte did not hesitate when asked to choose between Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah.

Laporte has had a prolific career for club and country, facing off against some of the biggest talents in world football, including Suarez and Salah.

Now, during an interview with AFTER FOOT, Laporte was asked to pick between two attackers who have enjoyed spells in the Premier League. It started with Salah vs Heung-min Son, with the full debate as follows:

Has Salah had a better career than Suarez? That’s certainly a debate worth having.

At Liverpool, at least, it is pretty clear that the Egyptian takes the lead on this one.

Suarez scored 82 goals and assisted 32 in 133 matches for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions.

That infamous 2013/14 season was by far his most prolific, netting 31 and assisting 13 in 33 league games.

However, he won just one League Cup at Liverpool, unlike Salah, who has delivered on the trophy and goal contributions front.

2024/25 alone saw the 33-year-old score 34 and assist 23 en route to the club’s second Premier League title.

All told, Salah has 251 goals and 120 assists for Liverpool, though Suarez’s career record is not bad either.

During his 861 club appearances, the South American has found the net 516 times and notched 279 assists.

What Luis Suarez said about leaving Liverpool for FC Barcelona

After a few good years in England, Suarez secured a move to FC Barcelona, where he formed a lethal attacking trio alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.

The number nine opened up on his decision to move in an interview back in 2015.

He said: “Leaving Liverpool for Barcelona was the right decision,” as quoted by TNT Sports.

“Winning trophies was a part of my decision in joining Barcelona, but also as a family we knew it was the right decision even before I won a trophy.

“I am very happy at Barcelona – I am at the best club in the world.

“If you look at some of the players here they have won trophies season after season, and that is my aim now.”
