In a major boost to the South Africa cricket team’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, experienced batter David Miller has been declared fit to join the Proteas squad for the global showpiece, which begins on February 7.

David Miller, who suffered an adductor muscle strain while representing Paarl Royals in the recently concluded SA20 franchise T20 league in South Africa, successfully passed a fitness test earlier this week.

He will link up with the rest of the South African squad before they depart for Mumbai from the O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday.

One of the most experienced batters in the South African squad, David Miller made his T20I debut in 2010 and has since gone on to become a mainstay in the Proteas’ 20-over setup.

The 2026 T20 World Cup will mark David Miller’s sixth appearance at the global showpiece.

In T20Is, the hard-hitting left-hander has scored 2630 runs in 133 matches at an average of 32.87 and a strike rate of 140.56. He is South Africa’s second-highest run scorer in the format.

Miller boasts great pedigree in ICC tournaments and played a big role in Proteas’ run to the semi-finals at the previous ODI World Cup.

He also took South Africa close to a maiden T20 World Cup trophy in 2024 but failed to get his team over the line as the Proteas lost to India by seven runs. A sensational catch by Suryakumar Yadav to get him out in the final over proved to be a turning point in the summit clash.

South Africa are placed in Group D alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Canada and the United Arab Emirates in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The Proteas will open their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on February 9 in Ahmedabad.
