Wolves close on Gomes deal

Wolves are set to complete a loan move for Marseille's midfielder Angel Gomes - once of Man. Utd.

Talks have been ongoing between the clubs over a return to the Premier League with reports claiming a deal is close. It will be an initial loan that will include an option to buy.

Gomes joined Marseille from Lille in the summer but has not started a Ligue 1 match since November and they are ready to let him leave this month to join Wolves, who look bound for the Championship.

Liverpool eye Leipzig loanee

Liverpool are in talks over a loan deal for defender Lutsharel Geertruida, but any deal would need the green light from his parent club, Sunderland.

The 25-year-old Netherlands international is currently at RB Leipzig for the year, but is a player on the Black Cats' books. The Athletic reports that discussions are now taking place around ending that agreement and arranging a move to Anfield.

Geertruida is capable of playing either right-back, centre-back or as a holding midfielder, which would be a huge asset given Arne Slot's injury issues.

Clubs gather for Blues teen

Sunderland and Everton are showing an interest in Chelsea's teenage forward Tyrique George.

Clubs in Spain, France and Italy are also following him, according to Sky Sports. The Blues have a hefty squad and could yet be prepared to let some of their fringe players depart.

Liverpool rival Chelsea for Jacquet

Liverpool are ready to join the race for Jeremy Jacquet and both they and Chelsea are in talks with Rennes to sign 20-year-old French defender, but he will only move in the summer, according to reports.

The Blues want to strengthen their backline and, as a result of Rennes' stance, are considering recalling 20-year-old Senegal defender Mamadou Sarr from his loan at sister club Strasbourg.

ICYMI - Toney to reject Juve

Ivan Toney is so desperate to play for England at the World Cup this summer that he is ready to turn down Juventus to continue scoring goals in the Saudi Pro League.

Juve boss Luciano Spalletti wants to bring in a striker before Monday's transfer deadline to continue the Italian giants' run of eight wins in 11 games in all competitions.

Spalletti has the 29-year-old Toney in his sights, especially with Spurs unwilling to allow France forward Randal Kolo Muani to leave north London.

But Al-Ahli striker Toney has his own goal, and his sights are set on Thomas Tuchel's England squad after the German included him in his World Cup plans last year.

Rosenior loving Chelsea structure

Chelsea's new boss Liam Rosenior insists he's thrilled to have other people taking care of the club's transfer business despite it naturally giving him less of a say on their recruitment.

The former Strasbourg boss believes the policy at Stamford Bridge means he can focus on the squad, rather than phoning round managers and agents.

He said: "That's the beauty of being a head coach within a structure: I'm not an old-school manager that's got out the phone and is making calls. I've got the best people, I think, in world football working on those things. I probably see the last two per cent of the work they do, which allows me to focus on what I need to focus on: the team and the performance."

Newcastle reject Fulham bid

Fulham have seen a £20m offer for Joe Willock rejected by Newcastle, who will not sanction a move for their midfielder unless they find a replacement, claims Talksport.

Willock has fallen down the pecking order at St James' Park but the Magpies still don't want to leave themselves light in that department.

As a result the move could be curtailed.

Eagles stand firm on Mateta

Jean-Philippe Mateta has agreed a contract with AC Milan until 2030, but Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will not let the striker depart unless they have a ready-made replacement, reports The Times.

Already this month the Eagles have lost Marc Guehi and Mateta has become their main source of goals, but time is running out to get someone through the door.

Carrick wants Rashford

Michael Carrick wants to bring Marcus Rashford back to Old Trafford if he ends up getting the Man Utd job on a full-time basis.

The forward is currently on a season-long loan spell with Barcelona, who have the option to sign him for £26m.

Rashford had been frozen out at Old Trafford, notably by Ruben Amorim, but the Telegraph claims that Carrick would like to have the Englishman in his squad should he stay on as manager.
