The talent of Lamine Yamal is undeniable, and he has been showcasing it this season with Barcelona. His performances have reignited discussions about whether the young forward already has his eyes on the Ballon d’Or, especially after finishing second in the 2025 edition.

The Spain international acknowledged that the Ballon d’Or is an award influenced by many factors beyond pure performance, which is why he prefers to concentrate on what he can control: playing well and contributing to the team.

“I don’t think about it. If you’re thinking about it, you won’t get answers. It’s something that depends on what you win, how you play, and who votes. It’s not decided only by your football. I just want to enjoy myself and win with Barça and the national team,” he said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

The Rocafonda-born attacker played down his individual numbers — three goals and three assists — in the UEFA Champions League, but stressed that his main goal is to see Barcelona competing for continental glory once again.

“It’s different. The position doesn’t mean anything, it just allows us to rest more. Whoever we face, we’ll go all out and try to win,” he explained.

“My game isn’t based on that. It’s true it creates controversy: when I play well, people say I don’t score, and when I score, they say I don’t play well. I just want to play well, help the team win, and keep going,” Yamal added when discussing his goal contribution.
