Australia allrounder Will Sutherland has re-signed to play for Yorkshire this summer. He will be available for the duration of the Vitality Blast, from May to July, as well as two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship.

Sutherland, 26, captains state side Victoria and Melbourne Renegades in the BBL. He played in the Blast for Yorkshire last season, taking 10 wickets and scoring 208 runs, as well as featuring in three Championship fixtures.

"I had a brilliant time with the club last year and I'm really excited to be coming back to Headingley," Sutherland said. "Working with Mags [Anthony McGrath] and the rest of the coaching staff helped me push my game forward, and I built a strong bond with the rest of the lads along the way.

"I followed the team's progress closely from afar and the way we finished last season was hugely impressive. The momentum and belief that created was clear to see and I can't wait to get back in and get started with the boys again."

Yorkshire finished second from bottom in the Blast North Group last year but have revamped their side, bringing in Moeen Ali on a T20 contract, as well as AJ Tye, another Australia international, as a locally qualified player. Alongside Sutherland, they will also have Afghanistan seamer Naveen-ul-Haq and Netherlands allrounder Logan van Beek available as overseas players for the Blast.

On Sutherland's signing, Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire's general manager of cricket, said: "Will made a real impression on everyone last year, both in the way he went about his game but also his off-field qualities too. He adds further leadership to our group ahead of this season, with the added advantage of already understanding our environment - how we operate and the values we stand for.

"He was a hugely popular member of the squad, and I know his return will be warmly welcomed by our members and supporters alike."
