An exceptional all-round display from Amelia Kerr, including a hat-trick, led the New Zealand women’s cricket team to a commanding 200-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI on January 31, securing a 3-0 series whitewash.

Kerr was named Player of the Match after scoring 80 runs and taking an impressive five-wicket haul. The White Ferns captain also earned the Player of the Series award, having accumulated 140 runs and claimed 16 wickets across the three-match ODI series hosted in New Zealand.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a formidable total of 303 for 6 in 50 overs. Kerr anchored the innings with 80 runs from 106 deliveries, including 10 fours, setting the foundation for a large team score. Middle-order batter Maddy Green narrowly missed out on a century, finishing 94 off 73 balls with 12 boundaries.

Contributors to the total also included Brooke Halliday, who scored 40 from 40 balls featuring three fours and one six, and Izzy Sharp, who added 25 runs from 27 deliveries with four boundaries.

For Zimbabwe, Tendai Makusha, Adel Zimunu, and Precious Marange each took one wicket, while Christabel Chatonzwa took two wickets.

In response, Zimbabwe struggled to gain momentum and were bowled out for 103 in 27.1 overs. Loreen Tshuma top-scored with 34 runs from 41 deliveries, but wickets fell regularly as New Zealand maintained tight bowling pressure.

Early breakthroughs were shared among New Zealand bowlers, with Rosemary Mair taking two wickets for 16 runs and Nensi Patel claiming one wicket for 16 runs.

Kerr then dominated the lower order, taking five wickets in 3.1 overs. Her hat-trick came during the 24th over of the innings, dismissing Audrey Mazvishaya, Tendai Makusha, and Nomvelo Sibanda in successive deliveries to end Zimbabwe’s innings.

The victory completed a comprehensive 3-0 series sweep for New Zealand. The White Ferns outperformed Zimbabwe consistently across all matches.

New Zealand will next host South Africa for five T20 internationals and three ODIs beginning March 15.
