Georgetown Tennis Sweeps Howard for First Spring Wins

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's and women's tennis teams captured victories over Howard on Saturday, January 31 marking their first wins of the spring season. The men's team defeated the Bison at Yates Field House with a score of 6-1, improving their record to 1-2, while the women's team scored a 4-3 victory at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, bringing their record to 1-1.

The men's team excelled in doubles play, going 3-0 with the duos of Arthur O'Sullivan and Burke Pablo, Joshua Lamm-Bocharov and James O'Sullivan, and Cyrus Zia and Hank Williams securing victories. The Hoyas also saw strong performances from their underclassmen, as Zia and Lamm-Bocharov both remained undefeated throughout the day.

Paige Gilbert and Julia Chu were dominant for the women, winning all their doubles and singles matches. Gilbert clinched the overall victory for the Hoyas, defeating Lauren Oliver 6-3, 6-4 in the final match. Chu secured a doubles win alongside Emily Novikov before defeating Howard's Franchesca Brown in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Women's tennis is set to return to action next weekend, facing its first BIG EAST competition with matches scheduled against DePaul and Marquette on February 7-8. The men's team will return to the courts on February 13-14 for a road trip to Pennsylvania, where they will compete against Bucknell and Penn State University.
