Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood marks key achievement amid statement on his international futureMason Greenwood has been named Ligue 1's Player of the Month shortly amid reports linking the 24-year-old with a return to the England national team.Greenwood won the award for October. The former Manchester United forward scored five goals during the month, with four of those coming in Marseille’s 6-2 victory over Le Havre. He also found the net against Lens in a 2-1 defeat. The youngster has scored nine times this season and provided four assists in 15 appearances. His numbers last year were impressive too, with Greenwood tying PSG’s Ousmane Dembele for the French Golden Boot with 21 league goals.Greenwood will hope his performances help him move closer to his goal of returning to international duty with England. The Manchester Evening News reported on Saturday, via the Daily Mail, that Greenwood was 'obsessed' with the idea of returning to St George's Park with the England squad. The 24-year-old had actually switched his international eligibility to Jamaica earlier this year. But despite Thomas Tuchel informing Greenwood that he was not part of his long-term plans, the Marseille star is still aiming to make the England squad.Steve McClaren, manager of the Jamaican national team, said in September that, after conversations with Greenwood's family, the ex-United forward was not looking to "commit at this time to anybody."He added: "He's taking his time over that, so it's a little bit disappointing. We probably have to be more patient, but we will keep the contact, we will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason and his family that he loves Jamaica, respects Jamaica."For now, all Greenwood can do is focus on club football. Marseille are currently chasing French giants PSG in Ligue 1, sitting two points behind the league leaders, who they beat earlier in the season.Greenwood will also come face-to-face with two English sides this season, with Newcastle and Liverpool both set to visit the Stade Velodrome in the Champions League. Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Make sure you don't miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
