Michael Carrick has delivered an update on Patrick Dorgu following an injury suffered by the Denmark international towards the end of January.

The 44-year-old held his pre-match press conference on Friday when he previewed Manchester United’s upcoming fixture against Tottenham in the Premier League.

Carrick has a chance to record four consecutive wins since becoming United head coach when he succeeded Ruben Amorim, who never managed four wins in a row during his time at Old Trafford.

With United sitting in the top four with 14 games left to play, there is plenty of optimism in the camp. Carrick will be looking to add to that without any setbacks.

It bodes well that the Red Devils have come out on top against three teams in the top half of the table in recent weeks, including title contenders Man City and Arsenal.

Patrick Dorgu scored in both matches but has been ruled out since then with a hamstring injury.

United are expected to be without three first-team players when they take on Tottenham. They include Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount.

When asked to provide a timescale on Dorgu’s injury, Carrick told reporters: “We’re working through it. It’ll definitely be a number of weeks, it will be a considerable period of time.

“He’s not going to be back in the next two or three weeks. To be more exact is a little bit difficult at this moment.”

Carrick was quizzed further on the rumours of a 10-week absence for Dorgu.

The head coach added: “It could possibly, we’re working through it. Certainly looking forward to getting him back as quick as we can and getting [him] on the pitch long before the end of the season.”

Michael Carrick backs Patrick Dorgu to come back stronger

Dorgu’s injury comes at a bad time because the 21-year-old was showing some of his best form since moving to the club a year ago.

However, Carrick believes the young Dane will return from his injury a stronger player.

Carrick said: “It’s a blow, it’s always a blow when you lose players and they can’t be involved, and we can’t choose them. Especially when you’ve had an impact like Patrick did over the last few weeks. Just finding that next level.

“Unfortunately, football throws things up, there’s up and downs. For this short period of time, he’s disappointed, he wants to be fit. But he’s going to have a career for the next 10 or 15 years and hopefully this is just a little moment for him. “Coming off the back of the huge positive he’s just had, I think when he comes back, he’ll be even stro
